Prevent Eviction Judgments,
Achieve Tenant Goals
Cleveland’s Right to Counsel prevents evictions and helps tenants achieve their goals.
During the intake/interview process, Legal Aid attorneys ask tenants who are asserting their Right to Counsel what are their goals for the case. Since Right to Counsel began in July 2020, Legal Aid has assisted clients in achieving approximately 85% of their goals.
The most common client goals are to prevent eviction or involuntary move; to secure 30 days or more to move; to secure rent assistance; to mitigate damages; and to secure monetary relief. During 2023, for clients who had the goal of preventing an eviction or involuntary move, Legal Aid was successful in achieving that goal in 81% of those cases.
